The Chester Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (CJATC) for the Electrical Indusrty offers a five (5) year apprenticeship to become a Journeyman Electrician. This committee is partnered through the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and The National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA). The apprenticeship program consists of 8,000 hours of on the job training, as well as 900 hours of classroom and lab training.

Thursday – Jan. 5th & 19th, 2023  – 11 a.m.  to 4:00 p.m.

Thursday – Feb. 2nd & 16th, 2023 – 11 a.m.  to 4:00 p.m.

Thursday – Mar. 2nd & 16th, 2023  – 11 a.m.  to 4:00 p.m.

Application Instructions

 

Apprenticeship applications will once again be available online in 2023.

 

  1. Applications will be available to print online at any time but must be dropped off in the outside mailbox at the main doors of the hall between 11am and 4pm on the 6 scheduled dates only. Any applications dropped off outside of those dates and times will NOT be accepted. NO EXCEPTIONS!
  2. A $40.00 money order made out to "Chester JATC" must be provided with the application when it is dropped off. We cannot accept cash, checks, or credit cards.
  3. To enter the building and attend school, COVID-19 vaccines are required. Many jobsites are requiring vaccines as well. If you cannot submit a copy of your vaccine card within 60 days of your application date, you do not meet the requirements for apprenticeship.
  4. You will have 30 days from your application date to provide the following:
    • A copy of your birth certificate
    • A copy of your driver’s license
    • An official high school transcript
    *Copies can be mailed, put in our outside mailbox, or emailed to [email protected]
    *Transcripts can be mailed or faxed directly from your high school. If you are bringing it yourself, it must   be in a sealed envelope to be considered official
  5. You will have 60 days from your application date to provide a copy of your COVID-19 vaccination card.
  6. You are welcome to provide any college/trade school transcripts or certificates, but they are not required.
  7. Following the submission of your application, you will be contacted with a date and time at which you are to take an entry level math test.
  8. So long as all the above requirements have been fulfilled, the CJATC will schedule you for an oral interview.
  9. If you are not currently employed in the electrical industry, it is highly recommended you seek employment with an electrical contractor.

Requirements

Notice of Apprenticeship Opportunity

  1. Be a minimum of 19 years of age at the time of application -must provide evidence of minimum age as required by the JATC .(e.g. copy of Birth Certificate)
  2. Be at least a high school graduate, or have a GED, or, in lieu of a high school diploma or GED, have a two-year Associate Degree or higher.
  3. Show evidence of successful completion of: one full year of high school algebra with a passing grade, or one post high school algebra course with a passing grade. (School transcript)
  4. Provide an official transcript for high school and post high school education and training. All GED records must be submitted.
  5. Possess a VALID PA Drivers License.
  6. Individuals who can verify (proper documentation e.g. tax, payroll records, notarized letters required within 30 days of application) that they have worked a minimum of four thousand (4000) hours specifically in the electrical construction trade.do not need to meet the requirements of items (B) and (C).
  7. Individuals who have worked a minimum of forty-five hundred (4500) hours as Residential Wireman under an IBEW/NECA local collective bargaining agreement (proper documentation required), do not need to meet the requirements of items (B) and (C).
  8. Individuals who have completed at least 3 years of related instruction and 4,500 hours of OJT as indentured apprentices in a properly registered electrical construction apprenticeship program not sponsored by IBEW/NECA (proper documentation required), do not need to meet the requirements of items (B) and (C).
  9. Prior to being indentured, applicants selected from the pool of interviewed applicants will be required to provide results of a physical examination and a drug test as decided by the JATC.
  10. The recruitment, selection, employment and training of apprentices during their apprenticeship, shall be without discrimination because of race, color, religion, national origin, sex or age – except the applicant must be at least 19 years of age to apply. The sponsor will take affirmative action to provide equal opportunity in apprenticeship and will operate the apprenticeship program as required under applicable law and lawful regulations issued there-under.
  11. Applicants who meet all basic requirements will be interviewed by the JATC. Apprentices will be selected in order of their final ranking.
